Founded in 2009 by filmmaker Kirsty MacDonald, the company was originally set up to promote her award winning short documentary Black and White and feature documentary Assume Nothing.
For over a decade since then, Thistle Films has produced hundreds of short-form documentaries and behind-the-scenes videos, with a focus on social history, the environment and artist in residence / artist making-of videos.
Through her production company Kirsty has created content for clients as diverse as Auckland Council, honey giants Comvita, the Auckland Botanic Gardens, engineering company Urban Solutions, Waikato Hospital Art Trust, and interdisciplinary artist Yuki Kihara.
